Keynote: My Joy Is The Revolution: Experiences as a Black Indigenous Storyteller in Social Movement Spaces.(Tai Simpson) An homage to a future without binaries, Tai Simpson explores storytelling to move powerfully and with intention in social movement spaces. She is both Nimiipuu and Black, both identities informing her work as an advocate, activist, and organizer. The rich tapestry of her history, intersectional identities, and work towards liberation are a celebration of her ancestors and a gift to her descendants. Her story is the story of generations. |
February 26, noon - 1 pm |
Faculty workshop: Imperfect Resistance: Exploring Black Liberation & Indigenous Sovereignty on the Journey to Liberation. (Tai Simpson) Many of the systems we each move through on a daily basis are in fact tools of colonization that create binaries, division, and social constructs incredibly detrimental to community building. Liberation is the goal of many social movement spaces to dismantle these systems, but the idea of liberation seems abstract and unattainable. This workshop will offer tools and insight on how to participate in liberation work in our daily lives, jobs, and within our circles of influence. These tools are based on the principles of decolonization, antiracism, and inclusion found at the intersections of Black and Indigenous experiences in the United States. |
