Faculty Performance Review-Job Description/Annual Review
The purpose of performance review is to support the faculty member's continous professional development and excellence. In this way, faculty evaluation contributes to ongoing improvement of college programs.
Overall evaluation of instructional personnel at Lewis-Clark State College has several components. The job description and annual performance review comprise the foundation. Other parts include advancement in rank, tenure, and periodic performace review.
Each calendar year a Job Description will be developed for all instructional and library faculty members. Job Descriptions are not required for adjunct faculty teaching six or fewer credits per semester.
Timeline: Before March 1, the division chair or director will meet with the faculty member to negotiate the Job Description for the calendar year (spring semester of the current academic year and the fall semester of the following academic year). By March 1, the signed Job Description must be submitted for approval to the dean. The approved Job Description will be returned to the division/library and kept on file for use in completing the annual performance review.
All instructional personnel will be confidentially evaluated annually on assigned duties as established by the current year Job Description. Performance Reviews shall be conducted by the division chair/director. For non-tenured faculty, the division chair/director must include with the evaluation a recommendation regarding continued employment.
Annual Review timeline:
January 25 - 1st Year Faculty
November 8 - 2nd Year Faculty
March 1 - 3rd+ Year Faculty
May 1 - Adjuncts teaching more than 6 credits a semester.
2. Faculty Rank and Promotion
The quality of the college is determined to a large extent by the quality of the faculty, and as such, the administration and faculty based the criteria for advancement in rank on continued growth in professional skills and performance. Promotion is one means of encouraging professional improvement, of reflecting the continuing value of the faculty member to the college, and of rewarding meritorious service.
Tenure refers to a faculty member's continous employment following a probationary period and upon fulfillment of the appropriate criteria.
4. Periodic Performance Review
At intervals not to exceed five (5) years following the award of tenure, the performance of tenured faculty must be reviewed. When review for promotion to full professor coincides with a scheduled Periodic Performance Review, then the promotion review may take the place of the periodic performance review.
