Public Datasets: How to Access and Use Datasets on Institutions of Higher Education -

Have you ever been asked to compile information on a topic using data from peer institutions? Have you ever wondered how LC State performances compared to our peers on metrics like retention, graduation, enrollment, financial aid, student debt and/or staffing by employee categories? How do you go about gathering this information in a way that does not entail literally calling and leaving messages on stranger’s voicemails? Lots of information is publicly posted in a place where you can retrieve it, but you don’t know how or where. This PDT will teach you those things. By the end of this PDT you will know:

  • Where these data on all institutions of higher education are located.
  • How to extract this information from these websites.
  • How to read or sort through these data to isolate the information in which you are interested.
