Request for Accommodations

Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis considering an individual's limitations and the academic demands and responsibilities of residential life at Lewis-Clark State College.  

Contacting Accessibility Services at the beginning of each semester so that appropriate accommodations can be made in a timely manner is very important. Students are strongly encouraged to make this contact within the first two weeks of each semester. This includes filling out the required disability intake form student intake form disability intake form that indicates the student's need (e.g., extended time to complete exams, assistive technology, etc.).

Providing Accessibility Services with appropriate medical, psychological, psychoeducational, or neuropsychological documentation indicating the student's disability and suggested accommodations is required to help expedite the accommodation process and must be submitteed with the student intake form.  Review the Accessibility Services Documentation webpage for information that may be needed during an accommodation request.

Common Accommodations

A wide range of accommodations and services are provided to students with documented disabilities. A student with a disability is any student who has an impairment that substantially limits a major activity such as caring for oneself, performing manual tasks, hearing, speaking, breathing, walking, seeing, learning, or working.  Students with temporary disabilities may also qualify for accommodations.  The list below provides information on some of the most common accommodations.

Once the need for an accommodation regarding testing is documented, and testing accommodations are assigned, contact the LCSC Testing Center to schedule your test a week in advance.

Note Taking Accommodations

Students who are approved for notetaking accommodations have a number of options for receiving their accommodations. Different options may be preferable based on the student’s learning style, the nature of the courses, the nature of the student’s disability, or the student’s previous experience.

Service Animals / Comfort Animals

LCSC complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in allowing use of service animals for students, staff and visitors. LCSC complies with the Fair Housing Act in allowing students the use of emotional support animals that are approved as an accommodation.

Sign Language Interpreters

Sign language interpreters are available for students who request them. Contact Accessibility Services to register for services prior to requesting an interpreter.  Interpreters may be in-person or via online video conferencing.

Students with print disabilities (visual impairments, learning disabilities) may qualify for alternative forms of textbooks.

Campus Event and Activity Accessibility Policy

All events that take place on campus must meet accessibility standards in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Disability Discrimination 

It is the disabled individual’s responsibility to begin the reasonable accommodation discussion, and the College’s responsibility to engage in a good-faith interaction with the individual, so that both parties can cooperate to develop a reasonable accommodation.  Visit the LCSC Nondiscrimination webpage for more information.

Students who believe they were not accommodated appropriately on campus or in their course (online or face-to-face) may begin the process of filing a grievance by contacting the Accessibility Services office, as outlined on the Grievance Procedures webpage.
